Alcino Soutinho
Born in Vila Nova de Gaia in 1930, Alcino received his degree in Architecture from the Oporto School of Fine Arts in 1957. He was Jubilee Professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Oporto and Assessor of the Lisbon Harbour Administration with regard to the Reorganization of the Riverside Area between Algés and Matinha between 1996 and 2002
He was President of the Portuguese Design Centre between 1998 and 2001 and is a Member of the Portuguese Association of Designers, Member of the Scientific Board of ESAD (Higher School of Art and Design), Member of the Scientific Board of the Magazine (Housing), Italy. He is also a Member of Consultation Commission for the award of specialization Scholarships related to Fine Arts, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
Alcino Soutinho has won the AICA Award (International Association of Artists and Art Critics) - 1984, Europa Nostra Award - "International Federation of the Protection of Europe's Cultural and Natural Heritage" - 1982, Awarded Medal of Merit by Matosinhos Town Hall - 1988, Awarded Medal of Merit by Vila Nova de Gaia Town Hall - 1992, Member of the Military Order of St. James - 1993
He was selected for the European "Mies Van der Rohe Award" in 1991 and selected for the Portuguese representation in the S.Paulo International Architecture Biennal, (Brazil) in 1993
He is a self-employed professional since 1957. Has authored several projects for collective and private habitation, interior architecture, facilities and the conversion of building.
